Region Dalarna chooses Friktion to turn partnership into practice
How do you deliver 125% of the value with 75% of the resources? To meet the challenges of tomorrow, the Medical Technology and IT department (MIT) at Region Dalarna is transforming to become a proactive digital partner to the rest of the organization. And they’ve added a bit of Friktion to help make it real.
Malmö, Sweden—September 29, 2025—We proudly announce that Region Dalarna has chosen Friktion to support a transformation initiative at MIT, the department responsible for delivering and maintaining reliable and effective medical technology and IT operations. This initiative will affect 180 people at MIT, and, by extension, all residents in the region.
From service provider to proactive partner
With an aging population, decreasing resources, and increasing expectations, the old ways of working at MIT just aren’t … well, working. To succeed in a complex and constantly changing reality, they've had to rethink their role.
“Our ambition is to move from being a reactive service organization to becoming a proactive digital partner that develops new solutions together with healthcare", says Siri Grönberg, Acting IT Director at MIT, Region Dalarna. "The collaboration with Friktion is an important part of this journey as it merges our need for agility with a systematized way of working with change to strengthen the development of public services.”
Creating an adaptable, future-proof organisation
To turn this ambition into reality, we’re applying a non-linear, emergent approach to change that will reduce the risk, produce better solutions, accelerate the impact and—if done right—future-proof the whole organization. Because non-linear change isn’t just about solving today’s problem, it’s about becoming the kind of organization that can adapt and rise to … whatever comes next, really.
The first step? Exploring what partnership looks like in everyday practice and identifying the new behaviors needed at MIT to make it tangible and real.
“Non-linear change is exactly what we need to handle uncertainty and a rapidly changing environment", says Karolina Hedberg, Acting Head of IT Management & Development at MIT, Region Dalarna. "I look forward to concretizing what that means for us at MIT together with Friktion.”
Solving the problems that truly matter
At Friktion, we are thrilled to have been entrusted with this! Helping organizations solve the right problems, the ones that make a difference and create real value, is one of the reasons we get out of bed in the morning. (Also we have kids we need to feed before school …)
“Healthcare is at the heart of people’s lives," says Anders Wengelin, CEO and consultant at Friktion. "Supporting MIT in becoming a proactive digital partner is a unique opportunity to enable change where it matters most.”
